News and updates on the Boston Scholars Program, which opens the door to new educational opportunities for Boston's underprivileged youth and provides the positive influences necessary to guide our scholars through the challenges of high school and open up a world of opportunities previously not thought possible.
Boston Scholars, Aviana, a sophomore at The Newman School, and Mark, a first year at South Kent School, received the Keds Award for exceptional integrity and commitment to all things "cool" - leadership, scholarship, mentor partnership, merit, and community service. Aviana and her Mentor Elise spoke about their BSP experiences as Keds Corp. made a $50,000 pledge to Boston Scholars Program.
The animated scene at Boston's Best Halloween Party at Felt on October 29 overshadowed the snowy night outside. Over 250 guests, including business leaders, educators, graduate students, and young professionals, gathered in costume to raise $12,000 for the Boston Scholars Program, surpassing the fundraising success of any Boston Scholars Program event to date. Thanks to event sponsors Palmer & Dodge LLC, Felt, and Ketel One, all ticket sales and silent auction revenue went directly to the Boston Scholars Program. Thank you to everyone who made the evening such a success.
Scholars from the Boston Scholars Program and their Mentors gathered at the First Parish Church in Dorchester for the Dorchester Open Studios, a neighborhood-wide celebration of art in the Dorchester community. This 4th annual Open Studios event featured visual arts displays, music, theater, comedy and film from over 70 artists who live or work in the neighborhood. Scholars and Mentors helped set up art exhibits, cleaned the grounds around the church, advertised the event, and met the artists while viewing the exhibits.

The summer has been packed with activity as our Scholars begin to get to know their fellow Scholars, respective Mentors, and the specifics of the four year experience they have embarked on as a Boston Scholar. We celebrated of the acceptance of our second class of scholars with a June 18 Kick-off BBQ at the Epiphany School and a July 20 photo opportunity with Massachusetts Governor Romney. We also enjoyed an evening in the Boston Common to watch a Shakespeare Performance in July and are looking forward to an afternoon in Rhode Island to cheer on the PawSox in August. We are very excited to get to know our newly inducted Scholars!
